review – arrogant frog sauv blanc… a prince in disguise!

I am going to make a little form for the seven wines we tried this weekend so we are comparing them the same way each time….

Name of the Wine: Arrogant Frog Sauvignon Blanc

Country of Origin: France (Surprise)

Year: 2011

Price: $14

Rating: 4.3

What made this wine fit our theme for the night?: Ribbit! Frogs are all about Green!!

Comments: This wine was so awesome!! We all enjoyed it. It was the first one of the night and I was sure it would be our winner (spoiler – it’s not). France is not known for trendy, easy sipping wines for newbie wine drinkers. In fact, I get the impression they would eat new age ‘winers’ like me for breakfast!  But this wine was approachable, likeable, fruity and light. All the while holding it’s own with lots of flavor and nice body.  Some of the comments from the others in the crowd were;

  • Fresh, light with grapefruit flavor, refreshing
  • Light and refreshing
  • I like the light, slightly sweet flavor it leaves a nice taste in your mouth
  • Very delightful
  • Smells like a Sauvignon Blanc, Soft perfume, grass flower meadow.

For sure it smelled great and both the aroma and flavor were grassy and light. Grapefruit and crisp green apple! It was such a surprise as I was not expecting this at all. That’s the great thing about these tastings. Discovering wines you would never have bought before but will most definitely buy again!

Would I buy this wine again? We all said absolutely. Especially at under $15 a bottle. Great score!!
